Tom Brady Officially Introduces Himself To Bucs Fans On Social Media

In case you needed further proof that the Matrix is officially broken — you know, other than the currently dire situation unfolding around the globe — it’s the fact that 42-year-old quarterback Tom Brady is now playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

What makes Brady’s move to South Florida so bizarre is that the man has essentially uprooted his life to play for a traditionally average, historically irrelevant franchise. Had Brady gone to, let’s say, the Chicago Bears, now that would make sense. Classic organization just one piece, a quarterback, away from seriously contending for a title.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “But Eric, the Bucs have tons of talent on both sides of the ball and they almost made the playoffs last year despite the fact that Jameis Winston threw 30 interceptions!” I get all that, and frankly, I agree: in theory, if you cut Jameis’ turnovers in half, the Bucs likely squeeze into the Wild Card.

But here’s the thing: that’s assuming that Tom Brady is going to be that much better than Winston. I’m a Jets fan, so I’ve seen more of Brady over the last two decades than the average fan, and trust me when I say: the man is not the same player he was 2, 3, 4 years ago. Brady was the greatest quarterback of all-time: he certainly isn’t now.

And now, not only is he leaving the comfort of the greatest coach in the history of the sport, but he’s moving to the other end of the country and learning an entirely new offense. A deep-throwing, high-flying offense, mind you — not necessarily an ideal fit for Captain Tommy Checkdowns skill-set.

Nevertheless, Brady is officially a Buc and no matter how you slice it — whether you idolize him, villainize him, or otherwise — it’s fucking weird.

And since you asked, my prediction for the Bucs this season is that the go 9-7 or 10-6, get into the playoffs as a Wild Card and maybe win a game before ultimately crashing out. Hope it’s worth it, Tommy Boy!
