Other than his religious beliefs and romantic relationships, the more you learn about Tom Cruise, the more you wind up liking him.

All across Hollywood are stories of Tom Cruise either mentoring, protecting, or simply being friends with seemingly endless actors and actresses.

Remember, it was Cruise who virtually saved movie theaters with the release of Top Gun: Maverick.

Or just last week, we brought you the story of Cruise giving Glen Powell and crash course in movie stardom. Last year, Timothee Chalamet revealed that Cruise reached out to him to offer advice. He also famously sends his friends chocolate-coconut Bundt cake from Doan’s Bakery for their birthdays.

This latest story of Cruise’s kindness comes courtesy of his former War of the Worlds co-star Dakota Fanning, who was just 11 years old when the Steven Spielberg-directed film was released in 2005.

And according to Fanning, Cruise — who gifted her a Motorola Razr when they were working together on the film — has sent her a pair of shoes for her birthday every single year since then.

“I turned 11 on War of the Worlds, when we worked together and he gave me my first cell phone for that birthday,” Fanning said told Kelly Clarkson on her daytime talk show.

“It was a Motorola Razr…I didn’t have anyone to call, but I wanted a Razr so bad. I must have been talking about it a lot because that’s what he got me. It’s such a great memory.”

She continued; “I loved shoes when I was little, and I started to be able to fit into really small adult shoes when I was on the War of the Worlds press tour, so I was really excited about them. So from that birthday on, he always sends me shoes.”

Fanning is out promoting her new horror film The Watchers, which was directed by M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan, hits theaters on Friday, June 7.
