Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise has been hanging out at the Olympics in recent days, and as it turns out, it’s not just in the capacity of being a sports fan.

According to reports, Tom Cruise is set to perform an “epic stunt” — what the actor has largely become known and revered for over the last two decades — to close out the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as a symbol of passing the torch to Los Angeles, which is where the 2028 Olympics are being held.

At the start of the Olympics, nearly 29 million tuned in to the Opening Ceremony on July 26, according to reports. While it’s unlikely the Closing Ceremony fetches that kind of audience, it should still provide a general idea of how many people will be watching.

“Sources with direct knowledge tell us the plan for the upcoming Closing Ceremony involves Tom rappelling down from the top of Stade de France, landing on the stadium field and carrying the official Olympic flag.”

The TV broadcast will then cut to a previously recorded film and the first 2 minutes shows Tom’s journey on an airplane, flying with the Olympic flag from France to Los Angeles, where he skydives down to the Hollywood sign. [via TMZ]

The pre-recorded section of Cruise’s stunt was filmed in March when Cruise was spotted hanging on the famed Hollywood sign.

Despite now being 62 years old, Cruise remains as active as ever when it comes to performing stunts, as evidenced by photos from earlier this summer of him hanging out on a plain while filming Mission: Impossible 8.

The 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, California — where the 1932 and 1984 games were previously hosted — from July 14 through July 30 in 2028.

In addition to his work on Mission: Impossible 8, Cruise also recently signed on to make a film with acclaimed director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who has previously helmed Birdman and The Revenant.
