Toosii may or may not play college football at Syracuse. The platinum-selling rapper is at risk of losing his roster spot.

He must now decide whether he wants to join the program as a walk-on, if he is going to seek a new opportunity at a different school, or if he is going back to the studio on a full-time basis.

Regardless of whether Toosii decides to play college football or not, he wants to make one thing very clear. His motive is not financial either way.

Who is Toosii?

Nau’Jour Lazier Grainger is better known by his stage name, Toosii. The 26-year-old New York-native began his music career in 2017. He rose to mainstream prominence with the release of his single ‘Favorite Song’ in 2020, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned double platinum certification.

He has more than one million followers on X and more than 4.5 million followers on Instagram and TikTok.

Granger was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. His family later relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina.

It was in the Tar Heel State that Toosii was born. Music was a way to escape his problems as a kid. He started recording at the age of 16 while playing high school football. It obviously worked out for him!

Granger starred as a slotback and wide receiver for Rolesville High School.

Although he was fun to watch with the ball in his hands, his size did not project as a Division-I college football player. And, if we’re being honest, he probably wasn’t good enough to go FBS anyway.

Did the multi-platinum rap artist quit the college football team at Syracuse?

Granger decided to go back to school to play college football at the age of 25. He took a lot of high-profile recruiting visits to schools like USC, Maryland, Duke and Sacramento State, but Syracuse ultimately received his commitment. His commitment post received more than eight million views.

Toosii was all set to enroll for the spring semester and put in the work.

He even got his locker all set up at Syracuse earlier this month.

Things have changed over the last two weeks. The Orange added a lot more players through the transfer portal than it expected so Fran Brown may not have a spot for him. If he does, it’s as a walk-on.

Toosii posted three times on X about his future. It seems as though he is not going to play at Syracuse but his college football side quest may not yet be over.

The first post revealed that he “actually decommitted.” The second post confirmed that he is “No longer committed to the Unviersity of Syracuse… Stay tuned 🎞️ All Glory to God!”

As far as I can tell, those two posts have since been deleted. I don’t know what that means or doesn’t.

The third post, which is still up as of the writing, does not address his desire to continue his college football career. Rather, it sets the record straight about his current situation.

There you have it.

If Toosii does not play college football at Syracuse (or elsewhere) in 2026 it is not because he was not making enough money. That is not true.
