Travis Hunter is one of the top choices to win this year’s Heisman trophy. Should that come to fruition, he unveiled plans of what he’ll do during his speech.

The versatile college football star says he’ll take the moment to celebrate his teammates. He wouldn’t be in the position without them!

Hunter has done it all this year on the field.

As a wideout, he’s racked up a team-high 757 yards and eight touchdowns. As a cornerback, he’s totaled seven pass breakups, two picks, and a forced fumble.

The production on both sides of the ball has made him the frontrunner in the Heisman trophy race where he could become the first winner since Charles Woodson to log this many defensive snaps.

Hunter’s spoken on his candidacy in the past. He believes his versatility and ability to stay on the field puts him above others in consideration.

“Nobody’s done what I’ve done,” he said in a podcast interview with RGIII. “I’ve got a whole stat sheet on both sides of the ball, and I’m playing the whole game. You never see me get tired…

“We haven’t seen a player that plays both ways and I’m going to keep saying that.”

The latest straw polls seem to reflect that line of thinking, placing the WR/DB over star running back Ashton Jeanty at Boise State.

Should things continue in the direction they’re trending, Hunter will be accepting the award as college football’s top player.

Travis Hunter plans to shout out his teammates *when* he wins the Heisman.

“I’m gonna wear a watch,” he said when asked by his quarterback about his Heisman trophy acceptance speech plans. “Just for you, bro… Just so I can hit your [pose]. And I’ve gotta shout out the team, bro, because without the team, we couldn’t get as far and I couldn’t get no individual award.

“Somebody asked me yesterday, ‘Would you rather go to the College Football Playoff or win the Heisman?’ The first thing I said was College Football Playoff. Heisman’s gonna come if we get to the CFP. We gotta get there first.”

A team player!

Hunter could help Colorado achieve that goal with a few more wins in Big XII action. At the time of this writing, the Buffs are 4-1 in conference play and in a tie for second place in the championship race.

They still have matchups against Texas Tech, Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma State remaining. They’ll need to finish the year strong in order to have a shot at the 12-team postseason tournament.

Hunter believes that making the field will ensure a Heisman trophy triumph!
