Travis Kelce Was ‘Battling Pretty Big Illness’ During Super Bowl

Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce was apparently sick during the Super Bowl. Two weeks ago, Kelce had a subpar Super Bowl performance when he ended the Chiefs blowout loss with four catches for thirty-nine yards.

After the game, Kelce took responsibility for the team’s loss.

“I’m kicking myself for some of the tiny, tiny decisions I made on the field,” said Kelce on the New Heights podcast. “I wasn’t the best leader that I could be in motivating my guys and keeping my guys calm, cool and collected.”

“I put a lot of that on myself as the guy that’s been in the building for 12 years and seen a lot of football and actually seen a situation just like this in the Super Bowl,” Travis Kelce said. “It’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s a hard reality, man.”

On Tuesday at the NFL combine, Chiefs GM Brett Veach revealed that Kelce was dealing with an illness during the game.

“We’re never going to make excuses and talk about it, but he was battling with a pretty big illness there before the Super Bowl,” he said. “But listen, the way the Eagles played, it wouldn’t have made a difference.”

Fans weren’t buying Veach’s excuse for Kelce.
