Travis Kelce is one of the best tight ends in the history of the National Football League and will be inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame exactly five years after he retires. He also, at the age of 34-years-old, may finally be washed.
While the sample size is still small — just two games, both of which were against two of the AFC’s theoretically elite teams (although they’re both 0-2) — Travis Kelce’s start to the 2024 season suggests that the tight end’s powers may have truly eroded, as he has just 39 receiving yards on four catches, which is the fewest across two games in his 12-year NFL career.
Against the Ravens in Week 1, he had 3 catches for 34 yards, andin Week 2 against the Bengals, he had just one catch for 5 yards.

While Kelce’s output thus far this season has been subpar, the Chiefs have won both of their games — beating the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 and the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 — to kick off their title defense as they look to win a historic third straight Super Bowl. Even Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been his usual otherworldly self as he’s already thrown three interceptions.
Thus far through two games, Rashee Rice has been the Chiefs’ primary weapon in the passing game, as he’s racked up 12 catches for 178 yards and a touchdown.
Travis’ start to the season, combined with how much fun his brother Jason Kelce seems to be having in retirement, has led some NFL fans to believe that this could be Kelce’s final season in the NFL despite signing a two-year contract extension with the Chiefs earlier this year.
After taking on two of the AFC’s elite teams at home to start the season, the Chiefs will now head to Atlanta for their first road game of the season when they take on the Falcons for Sunday Night Football on September 22.
