Five-star offensive lineman Ty Haywood committed to Michigan this week as he pursues his college football future. It wasn’t the first pledge the high schooler’s made.
Earlier in the recruiting process, he’d been committed to Alabama. He was reportedly turned away by the Crimson Tide after not signing in the early period.
Haywood is considered a Top 20 player regardless of position on ESPN. He was a headliner in Kalen DeBoer’s 2025 class, making a pledge to the program back in July of ’24.
He had the opportunity to sign with Alabama in December but opted not to while keeping his recruitment open. The Tide are said to have moved on after that decision in order to fill his spot more quickly.
Ty Haywood didn’t initially decommit from the program, though those close to the university said he was no longer a “take” for DeBoer and Co.
Haywood has not been considered a UA commit (previously reported last month) since failing to sign during the Early Signing Period.
He just never publicly decommitted for whatever reason. This is more just making it ‘official’ and removed from the commitment list.

The offensive lineman officially de-committed in January, with Michigan said to be the top contender for his signature. He took a trip to Ann Arbor soon after backing off of Alabama.
The Crimson Tide weren’t willing to wait around on Haywood through February. Maybe they weren’t confident that his commitment would stick, even if they kept the spot open. The Wolverines kept the foot on the gas.

They pushed for a flip, and in the end, it worked out in their favor. With Ty Haywood in the boat, Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class ranks 6th in the nation according to On3. The lineman will soon get the opportunity to block for five-star passer Bryce Underwood.
Interestingly enough, the Wolverines bested the Crimson Tide in their bowl game with a 19-13 victory. They’ve now followed it up with a big win on the recruiting trail.
