Five-star offensive lineman Ty Haywood is no longer a member of the Alabama recruiting class. The high school senior had the opportunity to sign in the early period but chose not to do so.

According to On3 Sports, the Crimson Tide opted to move on following his failure to ink a signature. They had no desire in waiting around until the next signing window.

Haywood’s recruitment has been largely uneventful in terms of a flip. He’d been committed to Alabama since July of last year. That remained the case up through Monday.

Haywood officially went back on his pledge to the university this week. Those that cover the team, however, said it was an outcome that’s long been known.

Reportedly, Alabama opted not to honor his commitment when he didn’t sign early. Haywood was the only recruit who chose not to do so in the December period.

Haywood has not been considered a UA commit (previously reported last month) since failing to sign during the Early Signing Period.

He just never publicly decommitted for whatever reason. This is more just making it ‘official’ and removed from the commitment list

The recruiting calendar might’ve had something to do with how things played out. With the transfer portal window opening prior to the later signing date, many college coaches have to make tough decisions on roster management.

Immediately fill an open void with a proven player in the portal or wait and see if a high school player honors their commitment in February? It seems Kalen DeBoer chose the former in this case.

The Tide picked up two offensive linemen in the transfer portal cycle. There may not be room for Ty Haywood at this point. With that being said, it seems he’s ready to move onto another school.

The decommitment officially re-opened his recruitment. He has plans to visit Michigan this coming weekend. Florida State is also considered a contender to land his signature. He’ll soon have a decision to make about his football future.
