Tyreek Hill Makes Stance Clear On His Future – Or Lack Thereof – With The Miami Dolphins

Things change quickly in the NFL. Don’t believe us? Just ask the Miami Dolphins and superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill. One year ago, Hill was legitimately drawing NFL MVP hype as served as the central figure in the league’s most explosive offenses.

Fast forward a year and the Dolphins went 8-9, missed the playoffs, and look on the verge of watching their superstar walk out the door. Asked about his future after a Week 18 loss to the New York Jets, Hill stated that he plans to leave the organization in the offseason.

“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs, man. So I just got to do what’s best for me and my family,” Hill said, doubling down on earlier comments. “If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I gotta do what’s best for my career because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”

Those comments came after Hill finished his worst statistical season since 2012 when he played just 12 games. Hill caught 81 passes for 859 yards and six touchdowns, all significantly down from his first two seasons in Miami.

Tyreek Hill Removed Himself From Miami’s Final Game Of The Season Against Jets

Meanwhile, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel seemed to imply that Hill pulled himself from the game against New York without any reason given.

“I was informed that he was unavailable right before a drive,” McDaniel said. “I was not informed that it was a new injury, and I think at that point of time my focus was on the players and I didn’t take the time to go and try and figure out more into that. There were guys on the field that were competing, and we were trying to win a game, so my focus was there.”

McDaniel didn’t explicitly state that it was Hill’s decision. But he also offered no alternative.

“I was informed he wasn’t available, and I didn’t really have the time to dig more into that and we’ll see what comes of that after watching the tape and talking to coaches and the training staff,” he said.

Hill has two year remaining on the three-year, $90 million contract extension he signed prior to this season. But it appears he’d prefer to play out those last two seasons anywhere else but Miami.
