Tyreek Hill Says ‘It’s Time For Me To Go Coach’ As He Nears End Of Disappointing Season

It’s been a pretty rough year for the Miami Dolphins and Tyreek Hill, as both parties have come significantly short of what they were hoping to achieve. The wide receiver has seen his stats fall off a cliff in his ninth NFL season, and it sounds like he’s weighing his options based on a message he sent out on Wednesday.

The Miami Dolphins had pretty high expectations heading into the 2024 season in the wake of an 11-6 campaign where they made the playoffs for the second time since Mike McDaniel took over as head coach. Unfortunately, things have not panned out as envisioned for a team that will need a bit of a miracle to punch its ticket to the postseason this year, as they’re sitting at 6-8 with just three games left on the schedule.

The fact that Tua Tagovailoa suffered yet another concussion that forced the QB to miss four games where the Dolphins went 1-3 in his absence was obviously a significant setback. However, that only does so much to explain the dramatic decline experienced by an offense that led the league in total yards last season but is currently sitting in 20th place in that particular category.

You can’t talk about that downward spiral without talking about the one that Tyreek Hill has found himself caught up in, as the wide receiver who posted 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns last season currently only has 805 and 5 in those respective categories; based on how things have been trending, he’ll finish below the 1,000-yard mark for the first time since 2019 (although he only played 12 games for the Chiefs that year due to a shoulder injury).

All signs point to the 30-year-old’s eight-year Pro Bowl streak coming to an end, and based on the tweet he sent out on Wednesday morning, it seems like there’s a chance he also ends up bringing his career to an end when you consider he unexpectedly announced he was thinking about pivoting to coaching.

Hill has previously discussed his desire to coach after hanging up his cleats and even spent some time working with wide receivers at Lee Summit North High School in Missouri during his time in Kansas City.

It’s unclear what prompted the tweet in question, and it’s a bit hard to imagine Hill is actually planning on walking away from the sport due to a single uncharacteristically quiet season. However, it’s certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on.
