Golfer Tyrrell Hatton was involved in a cringy exchange with a PGA Tour official who was attempting to update him on his FedEx Cup standing. The awkward interaction immediately went viral, leading to response from golf fans online.
Hatton seemed uninterested in hearing the update after a poor round on the course. To his surprise, he made the cut as a Top 30 performer, meaning there’s more golf to be played.
Hatton wrapped up his most recent PGA Tour event on Sunday at Olympia Fields in Illinois. Unfortunately, he shot one-over on his final round, putting his postseason at risk.
To make the Tour Championship, golfers needed to finish with a Top 30 standing. From there, they are seeded accordingly for the playoff tournament.
No. 1 player Scottie Scheffler, for example, will begin the championship tournament at -10 while No. 30 player Sepp Straka will start at even par.
Hatton entered this final weekend fighting for one of those final spots and the hopes of keeping his season alive. His subpar Sunday, however, put that goal in jeopardy.
Admittedly, he was unhappy with the finish.

Luckily, Hatton just slipped into the field, finishing the weekend at No. 28 in the standings. That’s good news for him as it guarantees a $500,000 payout even if he finishes last in the FedEx Cup field next week.
After learning that Hatton would likely sneak into that Top 30, the PGA Tour sent an official in to update Hatton on the good news. The golfer seemed less than interested in chatting.
Anything can happen on the bubble.

Hatton’s spirits seemed higher later Sunday night as he was confirmed to be advancing to the FedEx Cup Championship.
“Tense finish yesterday,” he wrote on Twitter. “Happy to make it through to Atlanta for the Tour Championship.”
