The University of Connecticut Huskies basketball program is on a historic run in the month of March. Both the men’s and women’s teams have advanced to the Final Four in their respective NCAA Tournaments.
On the men’s side, the Huskies overcame a 19-point deficit to Duke which is the largest blown lead from a #1 seed at the half in the history of the tournament (since 1979). UConn will now face 3-seed Illinois next Saturday. The women’s team easily dispatched Notre Dame (70-52) and now await the winner of the South Carolina (1) vs. TCU (3) matchup tonight.
Should both the men’s and women’s team win their next games, which they are likely favorites in, Jordan’s Furniture store chain in New England will have a LOT OF happy customers receiving free furniture.
UConn 2 Wins Away From Thousands Receiving Free Furniture
Earlier this year, Jordan’s Furniture announced a promotion that at the time probably seemed like the odds of it coming to fruition were infinitesimally small. They ARE SWEATING it out now, for sure.
The promo was simple, if the UConn men’s and women’s team both play in their National Championship games then customers who purchased furniture between January 20th and March 1st receive free furniture. Winning isn’t even a requirement! They just have to make it to the National Championships and these thousands of customers get free furniture.

Jordan's Furniture
Initially, the Jordan’s Furniture promo ran from January 20th to February 16th but it was extended to include all customers through March 1st.
According to the Jordan’s Furniture website, any customers both in-store and online between those dates are automatically entered into the promo if they purchased qualifying furniture. If the UConn men’s and women’s team each win one more game, then the customers “will receive a rebate of the purchase price paid for Make the Finals 2026 merchandise if, and only if, the University of Connecticut men’s and women’s basketball team play in the finals of each national tournament.”
The Jordan’s Furniture promo included “furniture, mattresses, accessories, or other” that were sold at the store locations or online between the dates listed above.
And there are a lot of stores! There are nine store locations listed on the Jordan’s Furniture website, with stores throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine. A lot of stores = a LOT of happy customers if the Huskies mens and womens squad with their next games.
Currently, The Fightin’ Illin-I are 2.5 point favorites to beat the #2 seed Men’s Huskies. That action will certainly change throughout the week. And the men will come into this week riding sky high after what might be the greatest comeback every witnessed in the NCAA Tournament.
The men’s team also faced Illinois on November 28th and beat them 74-61. Early in the season? Sure. But a win’s a win and they will have a mental edge in the upcoming matchup.
On the women’s side, the Huskies away the results of South Carolina vs TCU. They didn’t face either TCU or South Carolina this season but the women’s team is a perfect 38-0 so far this season and there is no reason to think they cannot beat either of those teams.
How Can A Store Afford To Give Thousands Of Customers Free Furniture?
Ultimately, no furniture store chain of any size could afford to absorb costs like this. That is why there is an entire ‘insurance’ industry that exists for promotions such as this to cover the costs.
Think about a golf tournament or halftime of a basketball game where if someone makes a hole-in-one or hits a 1/2 court shot they win a free car or extravagant prize… It is NEVER the people running that promo on the hook for the full value of that prize.
There is always an underwriter who sets a policy where, in this instance, the store would put up X amount assuming the promo will NEVER HIT, because they almost never ever ever do. And the insurance company happily takes their money knowing these promos almost never hit. Then the customers happily spend at the store hoping to get free furniture but are likely aware the promos NEVER hit.
Then there is a scenario like this one! The men and women’s team are each one win away from appearances in the National Championship games. The store will ultimately take a financial hit but nothing that will put them out of business. Now here is where things get even more interesting.
Jordan’s Furniture has been wholly owned by Berkshire Hathaway since 1999. Berkshire Hathway owns several major insurance companies including Geico. While it is unclear who the Jordan’s Furniture policy is with there’s a strong likelihood that someone within the same parent company organization is sweating bullets right now.
