Many sports fans have certain superstitions and rituals they turn to in the hopes of generating good vibes for their team. They might not actually impact the result of a game, but that doesn’t stop plenty of people from trying to influence the outcome in strange ways, including a UConn basketball fan who hired an Etsy witch to exorcise some demons from the Prudential Center ahead of a showdown with Seton Hall.
Sports fans have a tendency to chuck logic and reason out the window when it comes to cheering for their team.
That passion has the ability to make even the most avowed atheist appeal to a higher power when things aren’t going their way, and otherwise reasonable people will insist on sitting in a “lucky” spot on the sofa or donning a certain jersey in an attempt to send some positive energy into the universe.
There’s also a temptation to switch things up when things aren’t going your way, especially when they’ve trended in the wrong direction for a length of time that makes you feel like your team has fallen victim to some sort of curse.
On Tuesday, UConn’s men’s basketball team headed to the Prudential Center for a showdown with Seton Hall looking to snap a four-game losing streak to the Pirates in that building, and an Etsy witch may deserve some credit for bringing that skid to an end.
UConn got its first win against Seton Hall at the Prudential Center since 2022 after a fan hired an Etsy witch to lift a hex
UConn boasted a 37-18 all-time record against Seton Hall heading into their showdown on Tuesday night. However, the Huskies were 14-11 on the road thanks in part to a stretch of four straight losses at the Prudential Center spanning back to January 2022.
The team had defeated the Pirates in all four games that were played in Storrs since that streak began, and one fan was convinced there was some bad energy in the Prudential Center to the point where he reached out to a witch on Etsy to cast a spell to lift the supposed hex.
My friend Greg (great guy) has hired an Etsy Witch to remove the curse at The Prudential Center.
*please do not tell the team about this ritual, per the Witch’s instructions.

UConn may not have needed that assist when you consider they were sitting at 16-1 and ranked #3 against a #25 Seton Hall team that entered the game as 6.5-point underdogs, but it certainly didn’t hurt when you consider the Huskies got their first win against the Pirates on the road in four years with a 69-64 victory.
It’s only crazy if it doesn’t work.
