The UNC baseball team beat West Virginia in back-to-back games to book its ticket to the College World Series. After a decisive second victory on Saturday, the Tar Heels trolled the Mountaineers with a locker room sing-along.
North Carolina landed a trip to the Super Regional by winning an elimination game against LSU in its Regional round of play. That set up this weekend’s series with WVU, a team making its first ever Super Regional appearance.
Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, there would be no storybook ending.
UNC flexed its muscles with a pair of close wins in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels walked West Virginia off in Game 1 with a ninth inning home run.

They then locked up a spot in the CWS field Saturday night with 2-1 victory. After the game, a few of those excited Tar Heel coaches and players spoke to the media.
The postgame press conference was interrupted in hilarious fashion when the UNC baseball squad broke into song in the locker room.
Trolling West Virginia, the Tar Heels belted out John Denver’s “Country Roads” and a rock concert ensued in the team facility.
North Carolina Head Coach Scott Forbes and Vance Honeycutt both simultaneously realized that the locker room was blaring “Country Roads” and they shared a grin. Dalton Pence joined in as well giggling about being able to hear the spirited sing-along 😅#CollegeBaseball… https://t.co/DnHvIFH3xJ pic.twitter.com/eVMJyTWydT

The program’s theme song of sorts, we’ve heard Mountaineer players sing the tune a number of times throughout the season – typically after a win. This time, they were on the receiving end!
With the loss, West Virginia’s historic season came to an end. North Carolina, meanwhile, will continue on to Omaha where they’ll soon make their 12th College World Series appearance.
The Tar Heels will be looking to secure their first national championship in program history.
