Back in May, WNBA players including Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier announced they were starting up a new women’s pro basketball league called Unrivaled.

Unrivaled, a 3-on-3, six-team league, announced that it will have the highest average salary in pro female team sports history. That is a big deal as many WNBA players play overseas during the WNBA off-season to help supplement their income.

In addition to the salaries, the first 30 players who join the league will also be given equity ownership.

On Wednesday, Unrivaled made a major announcement, revealing that it had just signed one of the most recognizable names in the game: Angel Reese.

“305 BARBIEEEEE,” Reese wrote in a retweet of the announcement. “SEE YALL IN THE YAMSSSSSSS.”

Unrivaled will begin play in January 2025 with all of the games being played in Miami. It will be eight week, including the playoffs, round robin schedule with the top four teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season making the playoffs.

So far, 10 of the 30 players have been revealed as the WNBA heads into a break for the Paris Olympics.

Those to commit so far include Stewart, Collier, Reese, six-time All-Stars Jewell Lloyd and Chelsea Gray, four-time All-Stars Kahleah Copper and Arike Ogunbowale, three-time All-Stars Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum, and two-time All-Star Rhyne Howard.

According to the new league’s website, “Unrivaled will feature a brand new style of 3v3 basketball. The games will be played on a compressed full-court (70X50 feet).”

The games will be four quarters with a game clock and shot clock and will fit into a one-hour broadcast window.

Once the season is concluded, Unrivaled also plans to hold a 1v1 single elimination tournament played in February to determine the best female 1v1 player in the world.

Earlier this month, Unrivaled announced that it had signed its first and founding brand partner, Ally Financial.
