Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel know a thing or two about winning national championships at Ohio State.

Now the former Buckeyes head coaches believe it’s time for current coach Ryan Day to put up or shut up if he wants to keep his job.

Both Meyer and Tressel heaped pressure on Day when discussing the Buckeyes’ upcoming 2024 season.

“As of now this is one of the most talented rosters in the last decade, maybe ever,” Meyer told Adam King of 10TV in Columbus. “I mean, that’s a big statement. They’ve got to play. But you look at the quality of athlete at every position, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Now, Meyer is typically pretty optimistic about the program that he led to a national championship in 2014. But he wasn’t alone in his praise.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that many great players in that building all at once — every position, every place you turn,” Tressel said of the Buckeyes’ roster.

It’s hard to argue with either coaching legend.

Yes, Ohio State lost superstar wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to the NFL. But the Buckeyes were able to hold onto just about everyone else from a talented 2023 group.

They kept star players like defensive ends JT Tuiomolau and Jack Sawyer, defensive tackle Tyliek Williams, cornerback Denzel Burke, safety Lathan Ransom, offensive lineman Donovan Jackson, running back TreVeyon Henderson from entering the NFL Draft.

Then they also added superstar transfers in running back Quinshon Judkins, safety Caleb Downs and quarterback Will Howard.

The Buckeyes are nothing short of loaded at just about every position in 2024. Day enters year six of his head coaching career with plenty of accolades. But thus far, he’s failed to win the biggest games.

Those are all that you’re judge on at Ohio State, and it appears the clock is ticking on Day.
