You see something new every day in sports, it seems. Today qualifies once again, with the US Women’s Open in Lancaster, PA giving us a great viral moment.

The 12th hole at Lancaster Country Club has been making headlines since early Thursday morning.  World-number-one Nelly Korda has dominated women’s golf this year, but she carded a stunning septuple bogey on the par 3 hole, finding the water three times.

But, it wasn’t done creating viral moments for golf fans and casual sports fans alike. Later in the day, a clip of a tee shot where a player’s ball struck a bird on the green, apparently ending the bird’s life.  Take a look.

First off, poor bird. Talk about bad luck. However, that was a great approach shot! Certainly a much better way to play that hole than the way Nelly Korda played it, despite the untimely death of the bird.

It gives flashbacks to the most famous sports incident involving a ball hitting a bird.

Randy Johnson, you’ve got company.
