Even if you’re not a big hockey fan, you probably know who Connor McDavid is. The Edmonton Oilers center is the best hockey player in the world and is the best player on the loaded Canadian National Team.
After the USA beat Canada in the pool play stage of the first-ever 4 Nations Face-Off in a game that featured multiple fights, the two squared off for a hotly anticipated final that saw ticket prices into the thousands just got get into the TD Garden in Boston on Thursday night. The United States out-played Canada for much of overtime after regulation ended 2-2, but made a huge mistake by leaving Connor McDavid wide-open for the tournament-winning goal.
The USA beat Canada 3-1 in pool play last week, and there’s been a bunch of trash talk in the hockey world since then that have hyped this matchup to levels usually only seen in the Olympics.
The game was a classic from start-to-finish. USA fell behind 1-0, but scored the next two goals, before Canada tied up the match at 2 before a scoreless final period.
The USA had great chances in overtime to win the game, but were unable to score.

McDavid is obviously fantastic, and he scored the opening goal for Canada, too. But, how did the USA lose him in front of the net?
I know nothing about hockey
but why is 34 skating away from the best player in the world to double a player in the corner, leaving McDavid wide open in front of the net?
way too easy
again, I know nothing about hockey but why pic.twitter.com/wUHHLschut

It was eerily similar to Sidney Crosby’s goal to beat USA in the finals of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

These two teams are the favorites to meet in next winter’s Olympic Final in Milan, Italy, and it will be a huge draw once again.
