The USF Bulls will face Louisville in the opening round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Despite being the underdog, guard Wes Enis is confident.
The junior provided his outlook on the upcoming matchup a few days before tipoff. He gave the Cardinals some bulletin board material in the process.
South Florida pulled off one the best turnarounds in college basketball this year. Under first-year head coach Bryan Hodgson, the Bulls won 25 games after going 13-19 the season prior.
USF won the American regular season crown. It then won the conference tournament to secure a March Madness bid.
The Bulls are an 11-seed in the East Region. They will play sixth-seeded Louisville. They are not intimidated by their ACC foe.
Wes Enis is confident in USF basketball.
Wes Enis was asked what it would mean to him to pull off the 11-6 upset in the Big Dance?
His response:
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s an upset. I think we’re the better team. I don’t really care what 11-6 says. I think we’re the better team, so I wouldn’t really call it an upset.” pic.twitter.com/AkYEAbALZI— Evan Closky (@ECloskyWTSP) March 16, 2026
Enis spoke with the media as his team preps for its first NCAA Tournament appearance in more than a decade. He believes the Bulls deserve some respect.
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s an upset,” he said despite the seeding. “I think we’re the better team. I don’t really care what 11 vs. 6 says. I think we’re the better team, so I wouldn’t really call it an upset.”
On one hand, you have to love the confidence. It takes belief in oneself to spark Cinderella runs. On the other, Enis put a target on his back.
He has the Cardinals’ attention. This clip will resurface should the Bulls lose.
At the moment, USF is a 6.5-point underdog. Enis, the team’s top scorer, will need to have a big game in order to pull the upset.
The game is set to tip off at on Thursday at 1:30 PM ET.
