UVA Pays Classy Tribute To Tragically Slain Football Players

The University of Virginia has awarded posthumous degrees to Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry, the three UVA football players who were shot and killed last month.

The trio was shot and killed around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 13 as they returned from a class trip to Washington D.C. by alleged shooter Christopher Darnell Jones, who was a member of the UVA football program four years ago in 2018.

Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Programs Rachel Most, who served as dean for all three players in the College of Arts & Sciences, made the request. Chandler majored in American studies; Davis majored in African American and African studies; Perry double majored in studio art and in African American and African studies. [via ESPN]

According to reports out of UVA, “the entire Virginia football team, along with athletic director Carla Williams, president Jim Ryan and other representatives from the athletic department and university, attended the funerals for all three players in their respective hometowns,” says ESPN.

Jones, who was arrested following the shooting, has been charged with Mr. Jones has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder, two counts of malicious wounding, and five counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony, and he has yet to enter a plea. At this time, Jones is being held at a Charlottesville jail without jail.
