It seems like it won’t be long until Victor Wembanyama is the best basketball player on planet Earth. The Spurs big man was probably the best defensive player in the league last year in the second half of his rookie season last year, and carried on that kind of dominance to the Olympics where he helped France to a silver medal and a close loss to the USA in the gold medal game.

While Wembanyama’s defensive ability already has him at or near the top of the league, his unlimited offensive potential has a ways to go before he fulfills it. That being said, he’s pretty good on that end, and now he wants to go to Phoenix Suns and Team USA star Kevin Durant for inspiration.

Victor Wembanyama and Kevin Durant has an embrace at the end of that gold medal game that saw Steph Curry go nuclear down the stretch to clinch it for the USA. Here is what he said to Durant in that exchange.

Durant would be a great guy for Wembanyama to model his game after, as Durant has mastered scoring as a long and skilled player, which is what Wembanyama is. As Wembanyama gains strength, scoring is just going to get easier and easier for him, something that happened to Durant during his career.
It’s not that Victor Wembanyama was terrible on the offensive end last year by any means, as he averaged 21.4 points a game on 46% shooting from the floor in just 30 minutes per game.  At 20 years old, those are good numbers! But, with his skill, size, and touch, he could be a 30ppg guy in his career.
