Remember back when Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin traded Randy Moss to the New England Patriots for a fourth-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft? A pick that the Patriots had just acquired the previous day from the 49ers? And then the Raiders picked cornerback John Bowie, who never played a single down in the NFL? And then Moss helped the Patriots win Super Bowl XLII after catching 98 balls for 1,493 yards and 23 touchdowns during the regular season?
Yeah, well, five-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion, with New England, Vince Wilfork says he thinks Josh Gordon can do the same for the 2018 version of the Patriots. Only this time it only cost the team a fifth-round pick.
Wilfork, who played 11 seasons under head coach Bill Belichick and all three years with Moss in New England, says all Gordon has to do to dominate like Moss did is one thing.
“If anybody can get it out of him, I think it’ll be Bill Belichick,” said Wilfork. “Lot of people said the same thing when we got Randy Moss.” (That he comes with a lot of baggage.)
What advice would he give Gordon as he works with his new team and coach in New England?
“Come there ready to work every day, play your role and do your job,” advised Wilfork. “That’s one of the biggest things, number one motto that we always had was ‘do your job’ and it sounds so simple, but people make it complicated. So all you gotta do is do your job and you’ll be okay.”
So can he really be the next Randy Moss?
“Hey, he’s got the attributes,” he replied.
Wilfork also shared some more advice for Gordon on playing for the Patriots, as well as his thoughts on whether Gordon will be done in the NFL if it doesn’t work out for him in New England. (Which if he doesn’t end up playing in 10 games with them, they will also receive an additional seventh-round pick from the Browns in the 2019 draft, because, New England.)
