Travis Turner has not yet been found. The former high school football coach in Virginia remains on the run with a gun.

It has been more than a month since he mysteriously disappeared during the playoffs.

The high school football coach has not been seen since Nov. 20, when local police were on the way to his place of residence. He is now wanted by the FBI.

Travis Turner went missing during the high school football playoffs.

Union High School is located in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. It enrolls approximately 600 students in Grades 9-12 near the Tennessee state border. Turner has coached the Bears since 2011. They were absolutely dominant during the regular season.

Union went undefeated at 10-0 by a combined score of 467-97 to earn the No. 1-seed in the Class 2A playoffs. It defeated Lee during the first round.

And then Turner suddenly went missing on the day police were headed to his house— Nov. 20.

Details of the disappearance were sparse at first. The community gathered together to pray for his safe return. The team turned its focus to the second round of the playoffs without their head coach. It was weird but the Bears advanced to the semifinal with Turner’s whereabouts unknown.

While Union continued to win, eventually losing by one point in the state semifinal, it became increasingly clear that its former head coach was a wanted man. He was fired shortly after he went missing.

Virginia State Police confirmed the former head coach for five counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor. The U.S. Marshals announced a $5,000 dollar reward for information leading to the capture of Turner on Dec. 1. The FBI is involved in the search.

Where did he go?

This is where things get grim. Travis Turner knew that his days were numbered when he left home. His family said that he took a gun with him when he wondered off into the woods.

They supposedly don’t know where he is. The police have not yet found him.

He went missing on Nov. 20. It is now Christmas.

That could mean a few different things:

  • Turner got out of town, out of the state and maybe even out of the country.
  • Turner is hiding out somewhere deep in Appalachia.
  • Turner is dead.

Considering the climate and topography of the area around Big Stone Gap, it is very possible that Turner has not yet been found because he is no longer living. His body might’ve been eaten by local wildlife. He may not be discoverable by thermal camera because he has been out in the cold for so long.

We don’t know. Nor does law enforcement, more than a month after Virginia high school football Travis Turner went missing during the playoffs.
