The Virginia Tech Hokies’ season didn’t get off to the best start as they fell to Vanderbilt in overtime. The Hokies entered that road matchup as a two-touchdown favorite but left disappointed.

The surprising loss seems to have caused some urgency within the program. Virginia Tech is now holding a walk-on interest meeting in hopes of bolstering the roster.

Students can now sign up for an opportunity to join the 2024 roster. The Hokies need all the help they can get!

The team struggled early in that loss to Vanderbilt, finding themselves in a 17-0 hole before halftime. While they did battle back to take a late lead, they couldn’t close things out in the 34-27 defeat.

Virginia Tech struggled up front on the offensive line, failing to provide a push in the run game (2.5 ypc). It also allowed four sacks of QB Kyron Drones.

The defense wasn’t much better, surrendering 34 points to a Vandy team with a new starting signal caller and offensive coordinator. A disrespected Diego Pavia threw for 190 yards and rushed for 104 more while totaling three touchdowns.

Virginia Tech was expected by many to outperform last year’s seven-win squad, predicted by some to be an ACC title contender.

Now, they’re looking for help off the streets!

ACC Championship hopes haven’t been dashed with the loss to the Commodores. Everything the team wants to achieve is still in front of them. Head coach Brent Pry is doing his best to instill that mindset.

That said, gauging walk-on interest days after losing to the SEC cellar dwellers is far from the best look!
