Ryanne Brubaker is quickly becoming one of the most dominant high school volleyball players in the country as a sophomore. She is a cheat code off the bench at middle blocker for Grundy Center in Iowa.
Everybody else on the court looks minuscule in comparison!
Brubaker is an imposing presence in the middle. The right-handed hitter is already six foot, seven inches tall at only 15 years old. To put her height in perspective, she would’ve been the second-tallest player on Team USA in Paris last month.
Only Dana Rettke is listed on the Olympic roster as taller at 6-foot-8. The legendary Wisconsin blocker is 10 years older (!!) than Brubaker and graduated high school in 2017. She is one single inch taller than the fast-rising Class of 2027 recruit.
Grundy Center is an extremely small school in the Hawkeye State, located about 70 miles northeast of Ames and 80 miles northeast of Des Moines. It enrolls only 235 students in total.
Brubaker, of course, is one of them. She gave the Spartans — ranked No. 14 in Class 2A — great production off of the bench in a season-opening sweep on Tuesday.
There is just no way to hit over her!
When Ryanne Brubaker isn’t locking down the net, she is an offensive machine. Her reach is ridiculous, which allows her to swing down on the hands and tool the block if there isn’t a gap.
It’s impossible for Grundy’s much smaller opponents to get on an equal plane.
Brubaker is not fully polished as a volleyball player. There is room to improve both as a hitter and as a blocker. However, the 6-foot-7 middle is well on her way to a Division-I scholarship. She is only a sophomore in high school and you cannot teach height.
