The Tennessee Volunteers are being trolled by opposing fanbases on social media due to a now viral recruiting gaffe on a five-star player’s official visit.

David Sanders Jr, the nation’s top-ranked offensive line prospect, was in Knoxville this weekend to take a look at the Vols‘ football program.

The talented prospect has landed interest from every major college in the country, and is considered a top-five player – regardless of position – by every top recruiting site.

That said, a mistake on the trail can do some damage, and with the lineman having interest from a number of suitors, those “uh-ohs” are sure to be shared online for the college football world to see.

While on his visit, Sanders sat down for a meal with other recruits checking out the campus. Each player’s seat was designated by a name card, though something was off with the big man’s tag.

The Vols spelled his name wrong!

David Sanders posted a photo of his meal to Instagram, and it didn’t take long for the internet to do its thing.

Not the best look – especially with the potential headliner in your 2025 class!

It’s not the first recruiting gaffe we’ve seen on the trail this offseason. Fans thought Clemson’s Dabo Swinney had forgotten a commit’s name in a cringey recruiting interaction earlier this year, leading to online mockery.

Tennessee is in Sanders’ final group, as are programs like Georgia, Clemson, and Ohio State. We’ll see how his recruitment plays out for the Vols.
