A high school football program in the state of Washington no longer has a coaching staff. Skyline head coach Peyton Pelluer was suspended amid complaints from parents. His assistants have since quit.
The length of the staff’s absence now rests in the hands of the school district. It must decide whether to reinstate Pelluer or remove him from his post.
Skyline is a 4A program in Sammamish, just outside of Seattle. It currently ranks as the 20th-best high school football team in the state according to MaxPreps.
The Spartans are 5-2 this season with a 3-1 mark in district play. That’s good for a spot atop the standings as the team positions itself for a playoff push.
Postseason pursuits have now been put on hold.
Skyline high school suspended its coach.
An investigation is underway following parent complaints. Here’s more from Eli Sports Network.
Eli Sports Network has confirmed the issue surrounding Coach Pelluer is a claim by parents that he is not playing the correct players. The parents took their concerns to the administration which seems to be what triggered an in-house investigation and the suspension of Pelluer…
The complaint is about playing time and who is playing and nothing to do with any physical or other complaint.
Safety does not seem to be the concern. Instead, one or more parents have suggested that the head coach is playing the wrong players.
The school’s principal released a statement after the investigation was sparked.
Dear Skyline Families,
We are informing you about a temporary change in the Skyline High School football program. Head football coach Peyton Pelluer has been temporarily relieved of his coaching duties pending the findings and outcome of a district investigation. Assistant head coaches have assumed interim leadership of the football program.
Our priority remains providing a safe, supportive and positive experience for all student-athletes, and we hope to conclude the investigation in a timely manner. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Sincerely,
Keith Hennig
Principal

Who is Peyton Pelluer?
Pelluer is in his second season as the Skyline High School football coach. He is a graduate of the school that played linebacker at Washington State.
In Pullman, he tallied 352 tackles across 54 games. He was an All-PAC 12 performer.
After college, Pelluer entered coaching. That started at USC and Mississippi State before moving to the high school football level.
His former Washington State teammates have come out in support following the recent suspension.
Coaches like @CoachPelluer don’t just build teams — they build men. Please reinstate Coach Pelluer. He represents everything right about the game!@IssaquahSchools @SHS_Spartan pic.twitter.com/7tbzBeNnd3

Pelluer’s coaching staff is taking a stand, too.
Skyline’s coaching staff quit.
The group released a statement on its decision via social media. It demands Peyton Pelleur’s reinstatement.
To the Issaquah School District and the Skyline Community,
We, the coaching staff of Skyline High School Football, are writing to express our complete and unwavering support for Head Coach Peyton Pelluer…Friday, we were informed of Coach Pelluer’s suspension — mere hours before our game… We understand that this action stemmed from complaints regarding player participation. However, it is clear that a very small but vocal minority of parents has been allowed to exert outsized influence over our program, spreading misinformation and slander about Coach Pelluer and the coaching staff…We will not continue to coach without Coach Pelluer at the head of this program… We respectfully but firmly request Coach Pelluer’s immediate reinstatement. Our staff will not return to the sidelines of our KingCo Championship football team until he is restored to his rightful position.
