The Washington Wizards are the worst team in the NBA, but they at least still have a sense of humor. With only 17 wins (and 59 losses) this season, the Wizards haven’t let last place get them down as they busted out an all-time prank on April 1st.
Luring a fan to half-court and putting a blindfold on them under the guise the fan would win $10,000 if they made the shot, they had the fan going nuts thinking they’d actually won.
Washington Wizards Pranks Fan Into Thinking They Had Won $10,000 For Blindfold Shot
Of course, the real prank here is convincing any fans to show up to a Wizards game. They have won just 11 games this entire season at home and are 1-9 in their last 10 games. The Wizards’ opponents are averaging nearly 12 points per game more than Washington is this season (112.7 vs 124.3), so getting fans to show up for games is, in fact, a cruel prank.
As yesterday was April 1st, aka April Fool’s Day, the Wizards hosted the 76ers and broke out this prank for the special occasion.
After blindfolding the fan, they displayed messages to everyone in the stands the blindfolded fan could not see. Then after the fan threw the shot all of the mascots and entertainment crew on the court erupted into controlled chaos all designed to trick the fan into believing they had just drained the blindfolded half-course shot and won $10,000. All things considered, it is pretty hilarious:

While the fan missed the shot and did not win $10,000 they did not go home empty handed. The Wizards fan received an autographed jersey and courtside seats to a game next season. Not too shabby of a prize for a missed shot.
Of course, nothing goes as planned and the Wizards actually had to issue a public apology today following them duping the fan into believing they’d won $10K.

This video blew up on the r/NBA subreddit as one of the most popular posts of the week. The top comment is perfect, they wrote “Imagine thinking you won 10k then getting wizards tickets 😂😂 I’d be sick.”
When put that way, I get it. Is it really a ‘prize’ if you are being forced to watch the worst team in the NBA? Let me know what you think in the Facebook comments!
