There are few better sights in a football game than watching a preposterously large man wind up with the ball in his hands when the ball is not supposed to be in his hands.

On Friday night, West Virginia high school football player Akeem Davis found himself in exactly that spot. And that the 6-foot-1, 320-pound junior did not waste his opportunity at glory.

Davis, who plays guard and defensive tackle for a 6-4 Wheeling Park Patriots, perfectly read and intercepted a screen pass early in the second quarter against opponent John Marshall.

But unlike Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Michael Pierce, Davis saw his chance at glory, and he didn’t let it slip.

The big man quickly took off running toward the end zone. Unsurprisingly, however, he was quickly caught by several would-be John Marshall tacklers.

First, it was one, then two, three, four, up to seven players tried to drag Davis to the ground. But he just kept his legs moving and eventually broke free of the pile, making his way to the end zone for a 60-yard touchdown.

“Yeah, that was fun for the kids, it was fun for Akeem,” Wheeling Park coach Chris Daugherty said of the play. “He’s a strong, powerful kid. And so, yeah, you got to tackle him. He doesn’t get the ball at nose guard, but when he got his hands on the ball, he made the best of it. He knew that was his one touch and he was going to make it go.”

Davis’s play was so incredible that he even made it onto ESPN’s College GameDay where Pat McAfee suggested Wheeling Park give him the ball on offense. And honestly, it’s hard to disagree!
