The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York is just two months away, and Team USA captain Keegan Bradley has some tough decisions to make. One of those decisions involves 26-year-old Chris Gotterup, who seemingly came out of nowhere as a potential captain’s pick.

If you’re wondering who Chris Gotterup is, you’re not alone. The Maryland native is far from a household name. But he is someone that you may want to get familiar with in the near future.

Chris Gotterup Is Finishing The 2025 PGA Tour Season With A Bang

Gotterup began his college golf career at Rutgers University before transferring to Oklahoma where he won Hakins Award and Jack Nicklaus Award as the top college golfer in the country in 2022. Former winners of the Nicklaus Award in include superstars such as Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm.

But things weren’t immediately easy for Gotterup. He began his career on the Korn Ferry Tour before earning his PGA Tour card for the 2024 season. While he struggled a good bit as a tour rookie, he did pick up his first victory at the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic, an alternate field event contested the same weekend at the Wells Fargo Championship.

The 2025 began in similar fashion for Gotterup, as he missed the cut at eight of his first 12 events. But since middle of April, he’s gone on a run of 10 top-30 finishes in 11 events, including a top-25 at the U.S. Open, his first big win at the Scottish Open, and a third-place finish this past weekend at the British Open.

Gotterup has flown up the Official World Golf Rankings, which now has him at No. 27. He ranks 23rd in the FedEx Cup standings, and 22nd in the latest Team USA Ryder Cup standings.

Right now, Gotterup is still likely on the outside looking in at the Ryder Cup team. But with the Wyndham Championship and FedEx Cup playoffs yet to come, he has a chance to make Bradley’s decision difficult. Or, perhaps, make himself undeniable if he plays well enough down the stretch.
