The NFL certainly may not be as physical as it used to be, but it’s still awfully physical, with bone-crushing hits and potential for injuries on every player. Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith learned that the hard way in Week 3’s win over the Saints, leaving the game with a concussion after a brutal hit.

But, former NFL linebacker Will Compton appeared to allege that Devonta Smith was flopping on the play that knocked his helmet off in the hopes he’d get a flag, comparing him to NBA players, where flopping is rampant.

First, here is the hit that left Devonta Smith sidelined and unlikely to play in the Eagles’ Week 4 game in Tampa.

That’s a pretty brutal hit, and it’s a play that should’ve been blown dead much earlier by the referees in the game. They basically never let a defenseless player be a live ball carrier for that long. For some reason, they decided to leave Devonta Smith out to dry there.

The film shows that Smith was hit pretty hard here. There seems to be no flopping involved.

Will Compton took to Twitter on Friday and apparently thinks there was flopping. The nine-year NFL vet, who now is a personality at Barstool Sports, compared Smith to an MVP player.

Will Compton normally has pretty solid NFL takes and good insight. But, unless this is sarcasm, and it may be, this one seems pretty far off. Devonta Smith got leveled on this play and is going to likely miss time. There was no flop for a call here, and I’m sure that Smith wishes the hit never happened.
