The McNeese basketball team bested conference rival Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Monday night to improve to 16-5 on the season. After the win, head coach Will Wade brutally trolled the Islanders.
Corpus Christi students donned custom shirts for the occasion that read, “Real Cowboys are from Texas.” That message aged poorly after 40 minutes of action.
McNeese fell behind early, taking a two-point deficit into the halftime break. They’d overcome that disadvantage in the final 20 minutes of play.
The contest went back and forth with neither team leading by more than seven points. The score was tied at 67-67 with just under four minutes remaining before the Cowboys went on a quick 7-3 run. The Islanders missed a game-tying three-pointer before hitting a meaningless putback layup at the buzzer. Final score – Cowboys 74, Islanders 73.
It was the second straight game in which McNeese had beaten Corpus Christi by one point in their home arena. After the game, Will Wade and Co. celebrated.

McNeese players were hyped in the locker room. Wade and the school’s athletic director joined in. The win meant something to the Cowboys, who sit alone atop the Southland Conference standings at a perfect 10-0.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi, meanwhile, fell to 7-3 in league play and into a three-way tie for second place. The Islanders’ pregame trash talk came back to haunt them.

McNeese got ahold of the “Real Cowboys” t-shirts worn by students during the game. Will Wade mocked the Islanders while correcting that statement.
Surprisingly, the getups weren’t the only ones coordinated by those rival fans. Another large group of supporters was seen impersonating FBI agents while jabbing at Wade’s checkered past at LSU. The trash talk knew no bounds!

The rivalry matchup certainly provided drama. The off-the-court back and forth made the matchup even juicier. The two sides will face off one more time in February with the series returning to Louisiana.
