The Countries With The Five Best Fits From 2026 Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony

Technically speaking, the 2026 Winter Olympics have been underway for days now, with events such as women’s hockey and curling starting early to ensure everything can fit in on time.

However, Friday afternoon (U.S. time) marked the official start of the games with the opening ceremony in the legendary San Siro stadium in Milan.

In total, 92 countries will compete for medals in the Milano-Cortina games, with everyone ranging from Benin to Guinea-Bissau, and everyone in between having at least one representative.

But while the musical numbers and dancing at the opening ceremony catch plenty of headlines, the real show stopper is which country had the best fits for the biggest sporting event of the year.

So, we’re counting them down.

5) United States of America

Are we a little biased here? Sure! Team USA til it’s backwards, as the kids say.

But Team USA’s opening ceremony outfits, designed as always by Ralph Lauren, were genuinely pretty dang fresh.

The fit includes a winter-white wool coat with heritage-inspired wooden toggles, wool trousers, and a classic American flag wool sweater, Ralph Lauren says. It also includes a red, white and blue intarsia knit hat and mittens, a leather belt and suede alpine boots with red laces.

“Our design philosophy has always been about creating dreams and telling stories through style, and these uniforms, both timeless and modern, reflect the passion, optimism, and relentless pursuit of excellence that embody the American spirit,” Lauren said in a news release.

4) Germany

Unsurprisingly, German sports apparel giant Adidas was tasked with designing the look for the German delegation at the 2026 games, and it was a perfect embodiment of the country.

“Our ambition was to create kits that not only help athletes tackle the challenges of winter sports but also capture what makes the Games so special,” Adidas design director Jacqueline King said of the look.

3) Brazil

When you think of Brazil, the first thing that comes to mind is certainly not the Winter Olympics.

However, the country sent a record 14 Brazilian athletes to this year’s games, and it sent them with plenty of Brazilian flair as well.

Brazilian designer Oskar Metsavaht worked hand in hand with Italian fashion house Moncler to design a predominantly white look on the outside, but with iconic, green, yellow and blue of Brazil’s flag stitched on the inside, which popped incredibly against the all-white background.

2) Haiti

Numbers two and one on this list were the clear favorites, and Haiti, which sends just two athletes – Richardson Viano and Stevenson Savart – to the 2026 games, only narrowly missed out on the top spot. 

Italian-Haitian designer Stella Jean took the lead on the incredible hand-painted uniforms, which feature a red, riderless horse against a tropical, sky-blue background, inspired by the art of Haitian-born painter and sculptor Édouard Duval-Carrié.

“This uniform is the very symbol of the Haitian spirit,” Jean, who was born and raised in Rome, said in an interview with the Miami Herald.

1) Mongolia

Mongolia’s three Winter Olympic athletes – Achbadrakh Batmunkh, Ariuntungalag Enkhbayar, and Ariunbat Altanzu – arrived in impeccable style and incredible comfort thanks to Mongolian brand, Goyol Cashmere.

The coats are modeled after the traditional deel, a Mongolian robe, which traces back to the 13th and 15th centuries and continues the team’s theme of looks from previous Olympics.

The coats also bear intricate embroidery and patterns that display the symbols of the nation.
