Eastern Europeans Cannot Comprehend Bizarre Beer Selection At Winter Olympics Despite Extremely Fair Prices

There is only one choice of beer at the Winter Olympics in Italy. Although the prices are extremely fair compared to sporting events in the United States, the lack of selection creates a lot of confusion.

It is very funny to see other countries come to the realization in real time!

The good news is that a beer and a burger at the Olympics will not cost you a fortune. The bad news is that you are very limited in what you can drink.

Corona is the only beer at the Olympics.

AB InBev is a merger of American-based company Anheuser-Busch and Belgian brand InBev. It signed a first-of-its-kind multi-games partnership with the International Olympic Committee in 2024 to make Corona the first-ever global beer sponsor of the Olympics. That also includes the non-alcoholic version.

The agreement runs through 2028. Its message is focused on moderation and sustainability.

Seeing that Corona is most often enjoyed in warmer weather (on a beach somewhere), the partnership with the Winter Olympics seems like a weird fit. They don’t go together.

And yet, the only beer available for purchase in Italy is Corona— only in 10-ounce bottles.

Visitors from eastern Europe are equally as baffled as devestated.

To make matters worse, there are not enough beer vendors to meet the demand. This was the scene at 11:00 a.m. prior to the hockey game between Sweden and Finland:

All of that to order a 10-ounce Corona. Pretty hilarious.

Concessions prices are completely fair.

The cost of food and drink at major sporting events in the United States is outrageous. Beers typically cost no less than $13, with some venues charging as much as $16 or $18. For one beer. That doesn’t include the $10 hot dog, the $12 nachos or the $15 hamburger. It’s highway roberry!

Concession prices at the Winter Olympics in Italy are slashed nearly in half compared to the U.S.

  • Corona 10z: ~$7.63
    • (or Corona Cero)
  • Prosecco DOC: ~$7.63
  • Extra Dry Prosecco: ~$8.72
  • Spritz cocktail: ~$9.81
  • Mulled wine: ~$6.54
  • Spicy Salami Pizza: ~$9.81
  • Margherita Pizza: ~$8.72
  • Ham and cheese focaccia: ~$8.72
  • Gluten free sandwich: ~$8.72
  • Popcorn: ~$2.73
  • Chips: ~$3.27
  • Candy: ~$2.18
  • Gluten-free brownie: ~$4.36
  • Assorted muffins: ~$3.82
  • Cheeseburger: ~$10.90
  • Hot dog: ~$8.72
  • Veggie burger: ~$10.90
  • Coffee: ~$3.27
  • Hot tea: ~$3.27

Not bad! It is important to remember that the beers are only 10 ounces but two beers (20oz) costs more or less the same as one 12-ounce beer at a sporting event in America. Even if the selection at the Olympics is limited to only Corona, at least you’re getting your bang for your buck!
