The days of WNBA players playing in Russia and other countries to supplement their income in the winter might be coming to an end.

According to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, several WNBA players are banding together to start a new women’s three-on-three league in the winter.

Charnia goes on to report that the league will have the highest average salary in pro female team sports history, with 30 WNBA players getting an ownership stake.

Unrivaled – a professional women’s 3-on-3, six-team league co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier – is setting the record for paying the highest average salary in pro female team sports history. Notable signings to be announced in near future.

The new league begins its first season in January and will take place in the winter, which is opposite of WNBA season. The initial 30 players also receive equity ownership in the league.

Earlier this year, Ice Cube had offered Caitlin Clark $5 million to play men in his three-on-three league, the Big 3.

Some fans ripped the WNBA players for stealing Cube’s idea.
