Chaos erupted in the final moments of a women’s college basketball game between South Alabama and Coastal Carolina as an all-out brawl broke out on the court.
That fight could have major repercussions. The Jaguars may be shorthanded as they push to make the March Madness field.
The two conference rivals squared off in Pensacola, Florida as opponents in the Sun Belt Tournament. The Jaguars were the 12-seed riding a four-game winning streak. Coastal Carolina was the nine-seed.
After falling behind early, South Alabama dominated.
The Jaguars erased a four-point second quarter deficit to take a 39-34 advantage into the break. They’d outscore the Chanticleers in both the third and fourth periods to win, 80-70.
A women’s basketball brawl overshadowed the outcome.

Cordasia Harris of South Alabama got into it with Tracey Hueston of Coastal Carolina under the basket. Bodies tumbled as punches were thrown leaving one referee on the floor amid the madness.
The fight was sparked with the game largely in hand. South Alabama led by nine with five minutes to play. They’d hold the lead to advance to the next round of tournament play.
Both Harris and Hueston received double technicals. They were ejected from the game.
Six others on the South Alabama side were also tossed for leaving the bench and making contact with opposing players. Included were Daniela Gonzalez and Amyah Sutton.
That’s significant as it puts their status for an upcoming contest in jeopardy.
Will South Alabama basketball players be suspended?
Under NCAA rules, an ejection for fighting typically carries with it an automatic one-game suspension.
Thus, South Alabama might be without its top 3 scorers for tomorrow’s Sun Belt tournament game vs. Texas State. https://t.co/7esw21Kv91

No ruling has been handed down at the time of this writing. A possible one-game suspension could result from the melee.
Harris, Gonzalez, and Sutton are the Jaguars’ top three scorers. Should they have to miss the next matchup against Texas State, chances of winning go down.
South Alabama is 14-17. They will not make the NCAA Tournament without winning the conference championship.
Their bad behavior in Wednesday’s win puts their season in jeopardy.
