I’m one competitive motherfucker, but I try and keep things 100 and not let my emotions get the best of me for fear that I may embarrass myself. Well, I did once during a high school soccer game, but that was years ago and really not that bad.
What I’m trying to say is that I’d never stoop to the bush league level that some Oregon Ducks women’s lacrosse player did in a game against Detroit Mercy, where she was seen pummeling an opponent in the head with her stick on three separate occasions.
Looking closely at the number on the jersey, it appears the girl was Ducks player Jackie Moccia, who apparently lost her cool for some reason unbeknownst to anyone who has ever played a sport, using her equipment as a fucking weapon.
After watching the whole thing go down, Detroit Mercy head coach Laura Maness wasn’t too pleased that her player, Lexie Kinmond, had been knocked upside the head repeatedly, with the refs never once calling a penalty.
The refs missed all of these cheap shots as they happened off ball, but early in the game she was issued a yellow card for another hard foul. Her behavior escalated throughout the game. Oregon athletic department, the Mountain Pacific Sports Conference, and the Officiating assignor have all had access to the video footage afterwards as we wanted to bring them in the loop of what had happened, and we were seeking discipline action to be taken. At no point did anyone involve ask me about the well being of my student athlete. When she got off with a 1 game suspension for what was 3 separate ejectable offenses we decided it would be best to share the video on social media to bring to light the importance of safe play, and to try to preserve the integrity of the game that we love.
Once can be called an accident, twice is a trend and third is a certifiable crazy person, so, hopefully, Moccia gets disciplined for her multiple cheap shots.
