As anyone who watched video of Raja Jackson’s brutal attack on pro wrestler Syko Stu, real name Stuart Smith, is well aware, the incident could have ended in a murder had it not been for fellow wrestlers coming to the aid of Stu. One wrestler in particular, Douglas Malo, is largely responsible for finally putting an end to the attack after Jackson landed over 20 punches to Smith’s head while he was unconscious.

After the attack, Douglas Malo was also one of the very few wrestlers at the event who spoke to the media and tried to give people updates on Stuart Smith’s condition. “He was choking on his own blood and teeth,” Malo said. “Somebody reminded me there’s kids there and then I was like, ‘Oh my God.’”

Many of the wrestlers who participated in the event with Knokx Pro Wrestling have allegedly been told by the promotion to not cooperate with police or to speak to the media about what happened. Douglas Malo is not following that directive.

Douglas Malo speaks out

Speaking to the Scaling Up podcast, Malo gave an update on Stuart Smith’s medical condition and described in detail what he witnessed and experienced that night.

“I just got done with my match. I was blown up, took the heat, did the s—,” Malo said. “Then I get a whisper by somebody, ‘Hey, something is not right. I might need you to go out there and check a scenario. This guy’s going to do a spot.’ When does the spot happen? ‘We’ll let you know.’ You want to let me know, but you’re not telling me when the cue is, when the spot’s supposed to happen? You’re just going to let me know just in case?

“So I’m stuck waiting for this cue. I walk up to somebody with the radio. ‘Hey, talk to the back, when do you guys want me to go? What’s happening?’ I was informed about the beer can incident shortly before that, they told me they made up and shook hands, hugged it out multiple times, so it was going to be fine. Just wanted to make sure.

“I see the slam. I see the first punch, second punch, and by then, I’ve got people in front of me, and I just start moving. I kind of wish I would have sprung on the slam. So that’s where I am. I mean, honestly, there’s nothing worse than you watch somebody you care about, he’s a veteran and these are people who are supposed to love him and I’m the only one on the outskirts to be told to watch this apparently. And then I’m in there and I’m battling. I’m doing whatever trying to like work this. And I’m telling the guy to calm down. And now he’s trying to fight me.”

Douglas Malo added, “I think he would have killed him. I promise you he would have killed him. He would have killed me if he would have got the best of me. If he would have took my legs out from under me like he was trying to. He was going to do the same thing to me that he did.”

He said that he, much like WWE, who rescinded their partnership with the promotion, is “disassociating” from Knokx Pro Wrestling. He also blamed one of the other wrestlers, AJ Mana, for “gassing [Raja Jackson] up to be in that f—– ring to leading him to ruin his own f—— life to hurt somebody that AJ also has a f—— problem with.”

Stu’s brother shares update

Monday night, Stuart Smith’s brother shared another update on his brother, writing on social media, “Stuart is resting since he sustained severe injures to his head. He is currently conscious and able to talk but will have a difficult recovery ahead.

“With all the media and social media attention it’s been hard to get back to everyone. Stuart Smith appreciates all the love and support. He loves wrestling, his wrestling family, and all his fans and supporters. Wrestling has been a huge part of his life and he lives to put on a performance. He’s also just a regular guy with a life and family outside the ring. We appreciate all the support during this difficult time, Thank you.”
