It has long been known that the Ricketts family, who bought the Chicago Cubs from The Tribune Company in October 2009, were planning on updating and renovating Wrigley Field which has been around since 1914.

What many, including me, didn’t realize that they were planning on basically tearing down half the park to do it.

On Monday, WGN-TV shot a video from overheard of Wrigley Field which shows just how unrecognizable the place currently looks.

The Chicago Cubs website states that they will be working on adding and/or updating the following this offseason:

— Structural Improvements
— Continued Terrace Reserved Seating Replacement
— American Airlines 1914 Club (to be completed by Opening Day 2018)
— Maker’s Mark Barrel Room (to be completed by Opening Day 2019)
— The W Club (to be completed by Opening Day 2019)
— Catalina Club (to be completed by Opening Day 2019)
— Enhancements to the Suite Level
— Expanded concessions

Check out at just how much of the grandstand down each baseline has been obliterated…

Back in 2013, many of the same images of renovation plans that currently appear on the Cubs website was released to the public. What they show is a ballpark that bears very little resemblance to the Wrigley Field millions have come to know.

Progress, am I right?
