WWE superstar Roman Reigns took to social media on Tuesday to address the passing of his Hall of Fame father, Sika Anoa’i.

Anoa’i was one-half of the legendary “Wild Samoans” tag team with his brother Sika. The duo held the WWE (then WWF) tag team championships three separate times.

My family and I thank everyone for the outpouring of support in the name of my father, Pola’ivao Leati Sika Anoa’i, who will forever be remembered as one half of The Wild Samoans tag team,” Reigns said in the statement. “My father had a profound impact on my entire family and we are forever grateful for the foundation he built for us. There’s no way to fill the void left by his passing but my sisters and I will do our best to represent him and his legacy.  Rest in Power, Dad. We love you.”

Reigns, meanwhile, is the biggest full-time star in the WWE today. Though he has been off television since losing the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.

Reigns and Anoa’i are just two members of the legendary Anoi’a family tree. The family includes superstars such as Reigns, The Rock, Rikishi and Yokozuna among several others.

WWE Mours Passing Of Hall Of Famer Sika Anoa’i, Father Of Roman Reigns

The company issued its own statement on Anoa’i passing earlier in the day.

“WWE is saddened to learn that Sika Anoa’i, a WWE Hall of Famer, one-half of The Wild Samoans tag team and father of Roman Reigns, has passed away,” the statement read. “Regarded as a legend in the sports-entertainment industry, Sika was best known for teaming with his brother, Arthur ‘Afa’ Anoa’i Sr., in the iconic tag team The Wild Samoans. The duo’s fearsome presence and unhinged style made them massive stars for WWE in the late ’70s and early ’80s as they dominated the tag team division, winning the championship on three separate occasions.

“Following his remarkable career, Sika opened The Wild Samoan Training Facility alongside Afa where the duo trained future generations of WWE Superstars, including Batista. Sika’s legacy also carried on in WWE through his sons, Rosey and Roman Reigns, as well as the rest of his legendary family.

“In 2007, The Wild Samoans were bestowed with WWE’s highest honor when they were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, where they will be eternally enshrined as one of the greatest tag teams of all time.

“WWE extends its condolences to Anoa’i’s family, friends and fans.”
