Wrestling fans think it was no coincidence that WWE decided to stop doing their post-PLE (premium live event) press conferences just as they brought Brock Lesnar back into the company. Lesnar was one of the people named in former WWE employee Janel Grant’s still ongoing trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon.
What does Brock Lesnar have to do with the lawsuit?
In case you missed it, Brock Lesnar made a very surprise appearance at MetLife Stadium after the final match at WWE SummerSlam Sunday night. Following John Cena’s championship match with Cody Rhodes, but before the show went off the air, Lesnar’s music hit and “The Beast Incarnate” headed to the ring, apparently because he still has some sort of beef with the retiring 17-time champion.
The problem with that is the aforementioned lawsuit in which Lesnar was named as a “WWE Superstar” to whom Vince McMahon allegedly attempted to traffic former employee Janel Grant. Grant claims McMahon flew Lesnar to Connecticut during contract negotiations in which she was supposed to have a sexual encounter with the former UFC champion to help entice him to re-sign with the company.
Fans were suspicious
Many wondered why, following night one of WWE SummerSlam, there was no press conference for the media as there had been for previous PLEs. Instead, the company held a post-show where backstage correspondents conducted interviews with wrestlers and Paul Levesque, AKA “Triple H,” would instead just speak with the post-show hosts.
WWE did the same thing on Sunday night. Then, following the unexpected return of Brock Lesnar, many fans felt it was pretty easy to connect the dots between his presence and WWE no longer holding post-PLE press conferences.
What people are saying
“Triple H dropping the post show press conference so that no one could question him about bringing back a sex offender shows the scummy piece of s— he is,” one fan wrote on X (Twitter).
“WWE canceled the press conference after #SummerSlam specifically because they knew Lesnar was coming back,” read another comment that echoed many others. “Just coward stuff from a company that does not give a f—. I’m not sure how anyone can say anything otherwise.”
According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, it wasn’t a coincidence at all and the fans were correct in assuming Brock Lesnar was the reason behind the cancellation of the post-PLE pressers.
“Four weeks ago, WWE Legal cleared him,” Meltzer told Wrestling Observer Radio after SummerSlam Sunday night. “As far as why, I don’t know. And that something to speculate on, because theres a lot of stuff. Obviously everything relates to the Janel Grant lawsuit, and WWE Legal is either confident that their thing goes to arbitration and Lesnar’s not a factor at that point. Or they’re close to a settlement, and at that point Lesnar’s not a factor. Or somebody there just had a change of mind. And I don’t know which one of those it is. I do know, everyone figured this out, but I can tell you also factually, that the reason they didn’t do the press conferences was because of this angle.”
