In the immortal words of one Taylor Swift, “people throw rocks at things that shine.”

And right now, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are shining incredibly bright.

Which has led to plenty of rocks being thrown their way.

The latest, however, came from an unlikely source: WWE superstar Grayson Waller.

Waller’s comments came on Friday night when WWE Smackdown was in Denver, just a short trip away from the University of Colorado in Boulder.

But first, let’s start with some backstory.

The Buffs host in-state rival Colorado State on Saturday night and are massive favorites heading into the contest. But that didn’t stop Colorado State coach Jay Norvell from stirring the pot a little.

When I talk to grownups, I take my hat and glasses off, that’s what my mother taught me,” Norvell said, taking a thinly veiled shot at Sanders.

Sanders wasn’t a fan of the comments.

“I’m not going to get in front of you and change who I am just because you’re here,” he said. “I don’t do that. I’m consistent with who I am.” He went on to say, “I’m a grown man. I’m supposed to wear what I’m not supposed to wear.”

Sanders and company will get his shot at Norvell and his team its shot at the Rams.

But where does Waller come in?

Well, the young Australian star hosted John Cena for his “Grayson Waller Effect” segment and took the opportunity to take a swipe at Sanders in the process.

“When I talk to grownups, I take off my hat like my mother taught me,” Waller told Cena in a callback to Norvell’s comments.

The fans immediately booed as Cena seemingly struggled to hold back a smile.

Thankfully for Waller, he probably won’t have to see Sanders in a wrestling ring anytime soon.
