Xavier is not playing in the NCAA Basketball Tournament this season. The Musketeers went 15-18 during the regular season to miss the postseason altogether.
That did not stop fans from showing up to the play-in round. Many that did attend the event received an early exit.
March Madness officially began on Tuesday with the “First Four” games in Dayton. Texas and NC State faced off in the nightcap.
Xavier fans are not fond of the Longhorns. More specifically, they are not fond of one particular Longhorn.
To voice their disgust, they drove an hour from Cincinnati with a clear agenda.
Xavier basketball fans chirped Sean Miller.
Miller coached the Musketeers from 2004-2009. He took the program to four NCAA Tournaments and won three regular season titles during that time.
He then left for Arizona, a tenure that ended in controversy. The Wildcats were named in the 2017 federal investigation into college basketball corruption. Miller was fired as a result.
Xavier gave him a second chance at coaching high-level basketball a year after his ouster. He repaid them by taking the program to two more Big Dances across the next three seasons.
The Musketeers beat the Longhorns in the NCAA Tournament last season. Soon after, they lost their head coach to the same program.
Xavier fans responded with pettiness. Those on social media mastermind a plan to force Miller into using bogus usernames. They relentlessly shamed the coach throughout the offseason.
Sean Miller turned his back on Xavier one year ago. The fanbase has not forgotten. Supporters plan to ensure he never escapes their crosshairs. They made their presence known at Texas’s Big Dance opener.

Dayton Police got involved.
Handfuls of videos and images showing Xavier basketball fans ridiculing Sean Miller from the stands surfaced online Tuesday night.
Others subsequently showed those Musketeers being escorted out of the arena by security.

Those ejections were met by applause from the Xavier faithful. It did its job. There is no way Miller didn’t hear the taunts.

Unfortunately for the Musketeers, their antics didn’t work. Texas won the game on a buzzer beater. It will face BYU next round. Sean Miller will live to coach another NCAA Tournament game.
Xavier fans will have to make a much longer trip to Portland if they hope to continue their mission.
