Austin Capobianco was identified as the New York Yankees fan who ripped the ball away from Mookie Betts during Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night. He is friends with Rob Gronkowski.

The 35-year-old retired NFL tight end revealed new information about the rogue fan that dates back to their college days at the University of Arizona.

Capobianco is a season-ticket holder with the winningest organization in MLB history. Those seats, on the front row down right right field line, are his. Betts crossed into his territory so he took it upon himself to “patrol that wall” during the first inning of a must-win game for the Yankees.

Los Angeles’ $365 million outfielder made a catch in foul territory and reached his arm near the wall. Capobianco grabbed him by the glove. His friend grabbed Betts by the wrist.

They worked together to dislodge the ball from the glove to save an out. Of course, the umpiring crew called fan interference and allowed the out to stand. Capobianco and his buddy were escorted out of Yankee Stadium. The MLB will not allow them back in the stadium on Wednesday for Game 5.

According to Gronkowski, this is right on brand for Capobianco, who he referred to as a “maniac,” a “menace” and a “wild boy.”

Austin was a college friend. Very passionate about the teams he represents. Will do anything for them. A menace, wild boy as well, he is the person that undoubtedly would say he would do that then actually do it. Maniac status since college has been confirmed.

Both guys were athletes at Arizona. Gronk obviously played football. Capobianco played hockey.

Based on how the former described the latter on ‘Up & Adams,’ they definitely had some WILD parties.

What a turn of events!

The rogue Yankees fan was good friends with one of the best tight ends in NFL history, who was/is known for his wild shenanigans. The math certainly adds up.

Austin Capobianco will forever go down in MLB history for what he did in New York on Tuesday night.
