Former United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger passed away at the age of 100-years-old on Wednesday, leading to a bevy of reactions from the American public, many of which see the late politician labeled as a war criminal.

Among his many shady dealings and diplomatic decisions, the one that Kissinger is perhaps most criticized for is his complicity in the bombing of Cambodia during the Vietnam War, which caused a chain of events that led to the Khmer Rogue seizing power and the death of an estimated 2 million Cambodians.

Given Kissinger’s largely reviled place in the history of American politics, one would think that major brands and corporations would be smart enough to avoid the topic entirely.

The New York Yankees, however, are not one of those organizations as they posted what amounts to a heartfelt eulogy to Kissinger on their social media and team website.

“The Yankees are profoundly saddened by the passing of former United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who performed varied and vital diplomatic and advisory roles throughout his distinguished career. A lifelong friend of the Yankees organization, he was a frequent welcome guest of the Steinbrenner family at Yankee Stadium. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed,” the official statement reads.

The sign of a major logical or moral misfire, at least as far as Twitter logic is concerned, is when a “ratio” occurs, which is what happens when a post gets far more replies and quote tweets than it does likes.

That’s certainly the case with the Yankees’ Kissinger eulogy, as it currently has over 2,000 replies and 3,500 retweets compared to just 1,300 likes (at the time of this writing, these numbers will grow as time passes).

The top replies seem to sum up the general feelings of the sports world, as one says “This is a bad look”, while the other says “Tf this gotta do with baseball.”
