Longtime Yankees broadcaster John Sterling called his last game over the weekend after 36 years, and fans are annoyed with how the team honored him.

Last week, Sterling abruptly announced that he was retiring from broadcasting because he just felt tired of the grind.

“I’ve wanted to do this for a long time. I should’ve done it March 1. All during the winter, October, November, December, January, February, March, I lived the greatest life and I rued the beginning of the season. I should’ve quit then.”

“But that’s beside the point. That’s over and done with. I couldn’t be happier. I’m thrilled. I can’t wait to get off the air. I’ve been on the air since Feb. 1, 1960 and I’m tired. I wanna do what I want like I did from October through March, and I will.”

On Sunday, the Yankees honored Sterling with a pre-game ceremony.

The Yanks, one of the wealthiest teams in the league, gifted Sterling an 83-inch TV.

Fans immediately mocked the Yankees over their gift.
