The Ole Miss women’s basketball team faced conference rival Vanderbilt in SEC Tournament action this week. Commodores coach Shea Ralph was ejected for arguing a controversial foul.

The ruling has been criticized on social media in the days since. Ralph’s counterpart, Yolett McPhee-McCuin, ripped those critics online.

The play came late in the action with the game well in hand. The Rebels led 65-43 in the fourth quarter. Frustrations boiled over on the Commodores bench.

Sophomore guard Mikayla Blakes dove for a loose ball in an attempt to swipe an inbound pass. As she fell to the ground, she undercut an Ole Miss player.

A foul was called on Blakes, her fourth of the game. Shea Ralph exploded from the sidelines.

In an expletive laced berating, she blasted officials for the whistle. The reaction resulted in an early exit to the locker room.

Shea Ralph was ejected.

The coach’s night ended early. The eruption did little to impact that game, which the Commodores lost 89-78.

Vanderbilt fans backed their coach. They took to social media to voice their opinions on the foul. Ole Miss’s head coach set the record straight.

Yolette McPhee-McCuin agreed with the call. She believes the referee enforced the rule correctly on the floor despite Ralph’s dismay. There would be no excuses for the Vanderbilt loss.

McPhee-McCuin’s response received some blowback. Her stance was not what drew the most attention, however. Instead, it was the timing of the post.

Yolett McPhee-McCuin is back on social media.

After a loss to Florida in late February, the Ole Miss women’s basketball coach swore off the internet.

“When we lost to Florida, I deleted all social medias. You know why? Because I couldn’t care less what anybody thinks. I know what’s going on.”

Her X account was not deleted. It was inactive, however, from February 26th up through this week.

The commentary on Shea Ralph’s ejection was her first reply since that hiatus. She ended her social media break to blast critics. She did care about what was being said.

Yolett McPhee-McCuin is back online. She is not pulling any punches, announcing her return in dramatic fashion.

Ole Miss would lose its next game to Texas in the SEC Tournament. It now awaits its March Madness fate. It seems likely that followers will hear more from the coach in the postseason.
