“I hate this team. I was born into this, and I’m always a Jets fan, but like, I just, I hate this team.”

Those are the now famous words from a young New York Jets fan after the team’s 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday that saw them drop to 0-7, the last remaining winless team in the NFL.

The video, shared by Instagram user @Dandremac, has over 465,000 likes and nearly 9,000 comments since being posted on Monday afternoon.

Most of the comments express their remorse for the kid or show an appreciation for how well he summed up the entire experience of Jets fandom.

His reaction means he’s a true JETS fan. Welcome to the club,” one fan commented.

It’s okay bro, things never get better,” said another.

New York Jets Fandom Is Every Bit As Bad As Viral Fan Made It Sound

While the fan’s comments may seem dramatic, let’s run the numbers.

The franchise has not made the playoffs in 15 years. It has just one winning season in that span. New York last won the Super Bowl in 1969, which is also the last time the Jets even made the Super Bowl.

On top of that, the Jets just had a game where they recorded negative net passing yards. New head coach Aaron Glenn looks out of his depth. The team has no answer at quarterback. Star wide receiver Garrett Wilson is seemingly running out of patience, and there’s no clear path to relevance.

As someone who was born into Dallas Cowboys fandom and has since separated from the team for my own mental health, even sympathize with Jets fans.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to see a world where things get better anytime soon for this poor young fan. And at some point he may need to re-evaluate the claim that he’ll always be a fan, because if so, there is a lot of pain in this poor young man’s future.
