New York Jets fans came into this season hoping to see some major improvement from Zach Wilson after a rough rookie season. While the 2nd year quarterback won his first 4 starts of the season, he did so while throwing for just 693 yards and 1 touchdown in the 4 games with a pair of interceptions.

This past weekend, Wilson was forced to throw to give the New York Jets a chance to win against the New England Patriots and it didn’t go very well.

Wilson threw 3 interceptions on his 41 pass attempts, setting the Patriots up for a pair of field goals in a game that was decided by 5 points.

Yesterday, Wilson discussed his approach as he tries to turn things around after the rough performance in his first loss of the season.

Zach Wilson believes he needs to be aggressively smart for New York Jets going forward

The difficulty is being aggressively smart. I had some plays in that last game that just weren’t smart and I’ve got to take those out. Sometimes, interceptions are going to happen when the defense makes a good play, and you can live with those ones. But I’ve got to be better on some of the other ones. The mindset is you’ve got to be aggressive. I feel like we’ve done that, but it’s how can we clean up some of the mistakes?

Wilson may have been missing the smart on a few plays this weekend, but the bigger issue for him throughout the season is that he’s been missing the aggressive. When the Jets spent the number 2 pick on Wilson last year, they couldn’t have been hoping that he’d be averaging just over 200 yards per game in year 2.

His play has already led to one of his top receivers requesting a trade and it certainly won’t keep the Jets competitive for the rest of the season.
